One of the most popular events at the Maine Science Festival continues to be our showcase event, 5 Minute Genius. This showcase event presents a sprint through some of the most remarkable, cutting-edge science happening in Maine, and highlights the remarkable breadth and depth of scientific work happening all over Maine every day. Some of Maine’s finest scientists give short, sharp 5 minute talks, followed by 5 minutes for questions; then we move on to the next scientist.

This year, the presenters covered a wide range of topics: wood products, nerve damage, manufacturing, public health, avian diseases, the health of Maine’s waters, and genetic assessment via big data. We were honored to highlight the work of:

– Nadir Yildirim, Revolution Research: Applying Innovation to Bioproducts

– Kraig King, GE Power: Intelligent Machines & Manufacturing

– Sandra De Urioste, University of Maine: Public Health and Community Participation

– Sarah Millington, IDEXX: Hatching into Modernization

– Steve Munger, The Jackson Laboratory: Death by a Thousand (Genetic) Paper Cuts

You can see the 2016 and 2017 5 Minute Genius presentations our YouTube channel. The 2017 presentations are also available in the playlist below.
