2020 Maine Science Festival: important update

The Maine Science Festival relies on large crowds coming together to celebrate Maine science. This festival atmosphere is one of the most important ways we celebrate our science researchers, engineers, practitioners, and innovators. With closing of the University of Maine, and a significant number of our presenters being put on restricted travel, combined with the recent declaration of COVID-19 being a pandemic, it is clear that we will need to take the unprecedented step (and incredibly difficult decision) to cancel the upcoming Maine Science Festival.

Our plan is to work with our presenters and partners to produce all Showcase Events (other than Exploration Station) throughout the rest of 2020 if at all possible. This is in addition to our MSF Pop-up events, which we will continue as well. It is due to the support of our sponsors that this will be possible.

We remain committed to highlighting the work of Maine’s scientists, and postponing this year’s events will not discourage us from continuing to find ways to promote and celebrate the science that happens daily in Maine.
