–       “Maine State Science Fair” Come and check out the latest crop of up-and-coming scientists from high schools around Maine. The top three finishers will represent Maine at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair – the world’s largest and most prestigious science fair. Presented by The Jackson Laboratory and Maine Math & Science Alliance

–       “Robotics” Explore the world of robotics via a robot and LEGO building center. Presented by Maine Robotics

–       “High Altitude Ballooning” Learn about the opportunities in Maine for sending experiments into near-space aboard a high-altitude balloon flight. Presented by the Eason Laboratory, College of Engineering, University of Maine  

–       “Old time telephones” Explore high-tech means of communication from the 20th Century with vintage dial phones and their mechanics open to see. Follow, through sight and sound, the path of a telephone call – the slow-motion equivalent of digitized switching, and an introduction to computer logic. Presented by The Telephone Museum

–       “Wireless Leak Detection for Space” Take a look at the Wireless Leak Detector (WiLD) system that is going to fly on the International Space Station. There will also be a simulation demo where festival-goers can try and determine where the leak is, based on data transmitted to a computer screen. Presented by WiSe-Net Lab, University of Maine

–       “The Human Body: Amazing Facts”  Learn some of the cool things about the human body, with measurements and testing for the Bitter Gene. Presented by Girl Scouts of Maine

–      “Launch with Challenger Center”! Join in the fun with Challenger’s hands-on engineering activities: build, stomp, design and LAUNCH! Presented by the Challenger Learning Center of Maine.

–      “Probability”  Join the UNE Math Club, and learn about probability through games of chance and computer simulations. Presented by University of New England, Math Club

–       “Water Density”  This is your chance to learn about how water can be different densities, and even stack up in layers in the ocean like the oil and vinegar in your salad dressing! What makes water get denser? What makes water get less dense? What happens when we put less dense water on top of more dense water? Use the tools scientists use to measure the density of water, and be prepared to get wet and make some super dense water of your own.  Presented by Maine Maritime Academy

–       “Citizen Science” Learn about how you can be a citizen scientist, and find out about the skills necessary: scientific observation, photography, and identification skills. Festival goers will also be able to explore and learn about what citizen scientists are doing around the state. Presented by Gulf of Maine Research Institute

–       “Astronomy” Come can check out a spectroscopy and gas tube activity, and also a solar telescope outside if the weather permits. Presented by Emera Astronomy Center

–       “Energy, Environment and Wildlife” Come and explore solar & wind energy,and energy efficiency; see what microplastic beads look like under a microscope; learn about using lake sediment to trace human events; and find out how patterns in wildlife populations can be seen in museum specimens. Presented by Unity College

–       “Sea Farming in Maine” Learn about farming-in-the-sea in Maine, the importance of farmed sea animals in our everyday lives, and about our fascinating marine life. The touch tank is teeming with live shellfish that are farmed in Maine, including oysters, mussels, sea urchins and scallops, plus some of the predators that impact sea farms such as sea stars, crabs, and more. Did you know?  Even though clownfish (think Nemo) are a tropical fish….they are farmed in Maine and sold as pets across the USA. Presented Aquaculture Research Institute and Maine EPSCoR, University of Maine

–       “Cell, organ and skeletal explorations” Festival goers can explore mouse skeletal preparations, microfil perfused mouse organs, human atherosclerotic plaque samples, and slides from atherosclerotic samples using a dissecting scope. Presented by Maine Medical Center Research Institute

–       “Marine Debris and Maine Rivers” NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service and Marine Debris Program, along with the Maine Forest Products Council, will have a large stream table that helps festival-goers visualize and interact with the topics of river connectivity, river flow, sustainable forestry, and marine debris. There will also be a marine debris question wheel, and handouts about the topics covered at the table. Presented by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Maine Forest Products Council
